How Your Donations Help the August Wilson Cultural Center

When you donate to the August Wilson Cultural Center, your donation helps to fund the following:August Wilson Cultural Center

  • Free admission to world-class art exhibitions. Our exhibits feature stunning visual art from all over the world that you can experience through a variety of artist’s unique perspectives at our art galleries. Beginning April 27-July 21 the August Wilson Cultural Center will feature “Race and Revolution: Still Separate – Still Unequal,” curated by Katie Fuller and Larry Ossei-Mensah. This exhibition examines the ongoing racial and economic disparity in the U.S. public school system and will also feature works of art from local teens and merging artists.
  • School and Community Connections. From student field trips to AWCommunity Days, the August Wilson Center provides the local youth and other community members with the opportunity to experience the history and impact of August Wilson as well as world-class art exhibitions and performances by nationally and internationally renowned artists. The next AWCommunity Day is April 20 at the AWCC.This event features local vendors, performers, artisans, and community building. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy theater, music, dancing, and more at this free, family-friendly event!
  • Rental subsidies for emerging arts organizations. Donations to the AWCC provide emerging arts organizations with rental subsidies to assist them in establishing a space where their creativity can flourish, and they can create their art, music, and more within your community.
  • Nationally and Internationally renowned artists on our stages. From Grammy Award-winning singers to powerful performances presented by accomplished actors, the August Wilson Cultural Center hosts a range of nationally and internationally renowned artists on our stages. Upcoming performances include Jazzmeia Horn, a Grammy Award Nominated jazz singer on April 19; August Wilson’s “How I Learned What I Learned” performed by Wali Jamal, an accomplished actor from Pittsburgh on April 20th; Smoothfest Weekend featuring Grammy-nominated soul/jazz vocalist Maysa on May 10 and soulful singer/songwriter Phil Perry on May 11.

The August Wilson Cultural Center finished 2018 with a budget surplus and we were able to welcome over 75,000 people to our festivals, theater performances, events, and educational activities. By becoming an AWCC partner and making a tax-deductible donation, you can help us make an even greater impact in the future.
