Accessibility Information

The August Wilson African American Cultural Center is committed to the arts, storytelling, learning and exchange around the African American experience being for all. The AWAACC strives to make the galleries, theater, and public spaces welcoming, accessible and inclusive for audiences of all abilities. A two-week advance notice for accommodations not listed above is kindly requested.

Wheelchair Seating

The AWAACC is wheelchair accessible and features elevators to all public areas, accessible restrooms, and companion seating on both the orchestra and balcony levels. When purchasing tickets, please notify the Box Office if you require wheelchair-accessible and companion seating. This can be done online, by phone, or in person at the Theater Square Box Office. A wheelchair is available upon request if you need assistance from the curb to your seat.

Parking

The August Wilson African American Cultural Center is located in downtown Pittsburgh. The area offers many parking options including lots, garages, along with on street parking. Valet parking is available at select events. Guests are always welcome to drop off and pick up directly in front of the doors of the center, but please note bus lane restrictions.

Assistive Listening Devices and Audio Described Performances

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) amplify and clarify sound by cutting down or eliminating ambient noise. ALDs are available at Guest Services on a first-come, first-served basis for all events on the mainstage and in the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Education Center. Infrared Headsets are used without hearing aids and have individual volume control. In addition, Live Audio Description is available at select events via the ALD system and can be arranged by request. Please submit requests at least two weeks prior to the event. Services are subject to the availability of a qualified audio describer.

Sign Language Interpretation

Sign language interpretation is scheduled for select AWAACC events. A sign language interpreter can be arranged upon request. Please submit requests at least two weeks prior to the event. Services are subject to the availability of a qualified interpreter.

Service Animals

Registered service dogs and miniature horses are welcome in the AWAACC. When purchasing tickets, please notify Guest Services to take advantage of companion seating.
